It's been just over a year since Donald Trump defeated Hillary Clinton in one of the most talked about elections in history. While a lot has happened since then, one thing that has remained unchanged is that diplomatic, cultural and trade ties between India and the US have continued to flourish.

A prominent personal link connecting Donald Trump to India is Shalabh Kumar, the founder of the Republic Hindu Coalition which was the platform from which Trump memorably said 'Abki Baar, Trump Sarkaar' — an ode to 'Abki baar, Modi Sarkaar' — in the crucial final months of last year's elections. That Kumar and the US President are good friends is evident from the fact that the former's family were guests at the Diwali celebration.
With President Trump currently on a 12-day visit to Asia, Republic TV's Parikshit Luthra spoke to Shalabh Kumar and his daughter Manasvi on how the Diwali celebration came about.
