Congress party is all set for a generational shift after a gap of 20 years, with Rahul Gandhi set to take over the reigns of Congress as its new President by the first week of December. Going by reports given by party insiders his elevation is likely to go unchallenged and the coronation will be supported by the senior party leaders including the likes of Amrita Soni, Ahmad Patel, Chidambaram, Amrindar Singh among others.
The decision will be finalised in the Congress Working Committee Meet which s scheduled to be held today at 10 Janpath. Keeping the upcoming Gujarat elections in mind, the decision has been taken with the aim of bolstering the morale of the ground workers and influencing the Gujarat voters in a positive fashion.
The decision of elevating the Vice President has been gaining momentum for the last two years but due to internal flip-flops, the decision kept getting delayed. This time around the demand of winning a much-needed election has mandated the Congress leaders to speed up the process for RaGa's succession in the party.
This despite the fact that until some time back there were disagreements within the party regarding the timing of the elevation as some thought in case of defeat in the elections the entire onus would fall upon Rahul.
