Hack:

  • The Congress' youth wing magazine has posted a crass meme attacking PM Modi's background
  • Yuva Desh's attack comes just weeks before the Gujarat elections, a similar juncture to when Mani Shankar Aiyar had made his own 'chaiwala' jibe before the 2014 Lok Sabha elections
  • An irate Gujarat CM Rupani called the Congress' attack "blatantly classist and anti-poor"

Taking personal attacks against the Prime Minister of India to a new low,  the youth wing of the Congress party in an official tweet has posted a crass meme bringing back the 'chaiwala' jibe.

Yuva Desh, the Congress' youth wing's online magazine posted a tweet on Monday evening showing PM Narendra Modi in conversation with US President Donald Trump and UK PM Theresa May.

In said tweet, using speech bubbles, the Congress' youth wing has simulated a conversation where the two foreign heads-of-state put the Indian Prime Minister down using coarse words and tell him to 'go sell tea.'

Prior to the General Elections in 2014, Congress leader Mani Shankar Aiyar had taken similar potshots at Narendra Modi by saying that he will “will never become the Prime Minister of the country”, adding, “but if he wants to distribute tea here, we will find a place for him.”

This time as well, the barb comes at a time when elections, this time in Gujarat, are right around the corner. Current Gujarat chief minister Vijay Rupani took exception to Yuva Desh's tweet calling it 'blatantly classist and anti-poor' He went on to ask if 'Crown Prince Rahul Gandhi support this?'
