Security Forces are presently engaged in two fierce encounters in North Kashmir, one in Kupwara and the other in Keran. While the Keran encounter broke out today when the forces at the LoC thwarted an infiltration bid by the terrorists, the encounter in Kupwara has entered its second day.
Security forces had established the first contact with the terrorists in Kupwara's Zorhama forests (Gujar Patti area) yesterday at around 4- 4.30 pm and after ascertaining the presence of 3 to 4 terrorists in the forest area had launched a joint op of Para SF and CRPF.
According to unconfirmed reports, 2 jawans have been critically injured and 1 martyred. Due to the area being under dense forestation the operation is taking time in getting over.
The second encounter is presently underway in Keran where alert forces took down terrorists trying to infiltrate into the Indian side. 1 soldier has reportedly been martyred in the line of duty.
North Kashmir has witnessed close to 3 encounters in the last 24 hours alone with the Handwara operation, carried out by joint security forces team, being extremely successful killing 5 of the top LeT commanders operating from the North Kashmir area.
Even as the Kupwara encounter continues, search ops are being conducted in Keran and across the forest area of Kupwara.
