READ: 4 Ways In Which #SunandaForensicMail's Private Opinion Trashed AIIMS

Team Republic |

In an exclusive newsbreak, Republic TV has accessed the #SunandaForensicMail which shows that a private forensic opinion may have been sent to the then Health Minister in an attempt to make Sunanda Pushkar's death look natural.

For a report that was aimed to be purely based on forensic facts, there were several moments that the private medical opinion directly passed judgements on AIIMS. This raises questions as to the motives of such a private medical report given the fact that the content of it went far beyond scientific findings.

Here are four such instances from the letter:

1) On the first page of the independent report, Prof Dr Chandra Sekharan states: "The (AIIMS) report has been widely leaked to the media and a copy was sent to me. I am surprised at this breach of elementary ethical standards by AIIMS. I have examined the 14-page report and am astonished at what I have noticed."

“surprised at this breach of elementary ethical standards by AIIMS”.

2) On AIIMS establishing 'Cause of Death', the independent report says: "In suspected cases of poisoning, the role of the forensic medical expert is limited in the sense that he cannot come to a conclusion regarding the cause of death without the analytical report of forensic toxicologist who identifies and quantifies the poison or its metabolites."

“he cannot come to a conclusion regarding the cause of death without the analytical report of forensic toxicologist who identifies and quantifies the poison ”

3) On 'poisoning', the independent report says: "It is unethical for the AIIMS Board to attach a list of poisons and to say that they cannot be detected in Indian labs when he is not in the know of things that the thirty and odd Central and State Forensic Science laboratories are well equipped and modernised to meet all types of analysis. The list he attaches has no meaning unless he can adduce other evidence that leads him to suspect the existence of such poisons. Forensic science is a not a fishing expedition. The Central Forensic Science Laboratory can sue him for this preposterous suggestion."

"Forensic science is a not a fishing expedition. The Central Forensic Science Laboratory can sue him for this preposterous suggestion."

4) On 'the entire report', the independent report says: "The entire report is an embarrassment to the profession. It makes unwarranted assumptions of poisoning and seeks to substantiate it by conducting a wild-goose chase for obscure and unknown poisons. It appears that the AIIMS doctor has appointed himself prosecutor, judge and jury in this matter, which is not his role."
