Raking up his communal agenda, Asaduddin Owaisi questioned all parties for their failure in recognising Muslims as a backward class and providing them with a reservation quota in states where they are still a "backward class".
With references to the recent caste reservation debate raked up by Hardik Patel in Gujarat, Owasi took a dig at the BJP and Congress party by stating that,
" Will BJP governments of Rajasthan, Haryana, Gujrat, Maharashtra categorically that Gujjars, Jats, Patel’s and Marathas are socially and educationally more backward than Muslims of these states."
" Congress has agreed to give Patidar community reservation, but nothing for Muslims who are socially backwards and politically weak and unempowered."
Owaisi was speaking at a public meeting in Sambhal where taking a dig at the UP Government he commented that, "if the Government thinks Taj Mahal is a symbol of slavery then what would you call the Red Fort in Delhi?"
He further commented that be it Congress, SP or BJP, no one has done anything to uplift the cause Muslims living in the country. He further quoted the Sacchar Report to cite examples of Muslims being a weak section of the society who are being misused for political gains.
Responding to the charges laid out by Owaisi, Minority affairs minister, Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi commented that,
"People may say what they want to but we can only work as far as the regulations and directions of the court can be laid out. It's a democracy and people can say what they want but Govt is committed to the welfare of one and all which includes minorities."
