In a development that potentially brings to an end to a dispute that has run for almost the entirety of 2017, the Election Commission has awarded the AIADMK's 'Two-leaves' symbol to the ruling EPS-OPS camp.
The dispute had run ever since Sasikala and O Panneerselvam had fallen out following former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalitha's death in December 2016. Post Sasikala being sent to jail, her nephew TTV Dinakaran took over the reins of the faction, but both he and Sasikala were ejected shortly after E Palaniswami took over as Chief Minister of the state.
After meandering this way and that for the best part of six months, the EPS and OPS camps finally came together, at which point it was the EPS-OPS and Sasikala-Dinakaran factions that were vying for the 'Two Leaves' symbol.
Tamil Nadu chief minister E Palaniswami conveyed his gratitude to the Election Commission on the decision.
