The Indian Railways' latest tie up with global fast food giants will leave you with no excuses to avoid taking a train to your next holiday destination.
From today, passengers can choose to skip the fixed meal options provided for long distance trains such as Rajdhani and Shatabdi, and get food delivered from their favourite fast food joints instead. This includes all-time favourites such as McDonald’s, KFC, Dominos, Haldiram, Bikanervala, Sagar Ratna and Pizza Hut.
You can order food online at least 2 hours before your journey by going to the E-catering website. You can choose a restaurant by providing train name, PNR or station name. You can pay online or on delivery. An order can also be placed by calling toll-free number 1323, or by sending an SMS with ‘MEAL’, followed by your PNR number to 139.
This initiative will surely make train journeys more appealing and is a huge upgrade to the existing system, in which passengers have to rely on standard train meals of bread-cutlet and dal-rice-roti-sabzi available from the pantry car on the train.
