With prices starting at Rs 49.90 lakh (ex-showroom), the new-generation BMW 5 Series is now on sale in four variants and three engine options.
Ever since we drove the seventh-generation BMW 5 Series at its media preview late last year, we have been eagerly waiting for it to come to our shores. The Munich-based carmaker has finally launched the new 5 Series at a starting price of Rs 49.90 lakh for the base 520d diesel and 530i petrol variants. The range-topping 530d M Sport is priced at Rs 61.30 lakh. All prices are ex-showroom pan India.
BMW commenced production of their new mid-sized sedan earlier this month at their facility in Chennai. The new 5 Series is based on an all-new platform which is also the base for the flagship sedan 7 Series. This platform helps the new 5 in shedding around 70kg despite being larger than the outgoing model. In terms of design, the G30 looks similar to the F10 it replaces but it is easy to spot the changes if you look closely. The mid-sized sedan now comes with sleeker LED headlamps and taillights, more prominent lines all around, and redesigned front grille and bumpers. Just like the more luxurious 7 Series, the new 5 is also a gadget galore. It comes heavily loaded with technology like remote parking, adaptive suspension, gesture control, 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment and more.
BMW has launched the new 5 Series with three engine options – 2.0-litre petrol, 2.0-litre diesel and a 3.0-litre straight-six diesel. Badged 530i, the petrol motor is the same one that powers the 3GT as it churns out 248bhp and 350Nm. The 2.0-litre diesel is good for 187bhp and 400Nm while the top-spec 530d produces 261bhp and an insane 620Nm. All engines come mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission.
The BMW 5 Series will compete against the Mercedes-Benz E-Class LWB, the Jaguar XF, the Audi A6 and the Volvo S90.
