It has been raining big bikes in India this year. In 2017 so far, Kawasaki has introduced a bunch of supersport offerings, Ducati brought in the Monter 797 and the Multistrada 950, and Triumph too has added to its product range with the launch of the Bonneville Bobber and the new Street Triple S. The British motorcycle manufacturer is about to add another new offering to its range this month – the 2017 Tiger Explorer.

Powering the 2017 Tiger Explorer is a 1,215cc three-cylinder motor that has been returned for this new model and now makes 137bhp and 123Nm. This engine comes mated to a 6-speed transmission. The Tiger Explorer gets three rider modes – Road, Rain, and Off-road. Shuffling between these modes also alters the sensitivity of the ABS and traction control. Additional features include slipper clutch, Triumph’s semi-active suspension, and an initial measurement unit (IMU) that has sensors to detect the bike’s movements / lean angles and thereby optimize the performance of the cornering ABS and traction control.

When launched in India in a few weeks’ time, the Triumph Tiger Explorer XCx is expected to be priced at Rs 21 lakhs (ex-showroom). The new Triumph Tiger Explorer has been on sale in the international market for a while but will now make its way to Indian shores. Globally, the 2017 Tiger Explorer is on sale in six variants including the low-seat XRx and XCx variants. Unlike the Street Triple, Triumph may not bring all six variants of the Tiger Explorer to our shores.
