Australian custom cruiser builder Carberry Motorcycles has revealed its first made-in-India 1,000cc V-Twin engine. The V-Twin motor is based on the 500cc Royal Enfield UCE unit – actually, it’s two engines joined together to form a big twin thumper. What if you want to buy one? Well, you’ve to shell out Rs 4.96 lakh first, and then all you need to do is wait for a bit…

For the uninitiated, Carberry is famous for its custom cruisers that are based on Royal Enfield motorcycles. Although the manufacturer started off making custom motorcycles in Australia, it has now shifted its base to Bhilai, Chattisgarh, owing to financial troubles. Carberry will now produce custom cruisers and engines in India, which will be sold in domestic as well as export markets. The 1,000cc V-Twin engine is the first product after the firm started its operations in India.

Speaking of the drivetrain, the V-Twin motor comes with a number of modifications, including a bigger crankcase – oil capacity is now 3.7-litres -, a strengthened crankshaft, hydraulic valve lifters and a seven-plate clutch assembly that’s mated to a five-speed gearbox. The whole package includes the gearbox as well as the primary drive. The exhaust system is not included since it differs for different motorcycle frames.

Interested customers can place the order for the Carberry V-Twin motor by paying 50 per cent of the total cost up front. However, the engine is still pending for clearance from ARAI, meaning you can’t fit and run the motor in a motorcycle just as yet. As per the company, it should be able to get the approval from the authorities within a few months. In fact, the manufacturer is confident that it’ll be able to offer a complete custom cruiser – fitted with the 1,000cc V-Twin engine – by the end of 2017. The motorcycle in question here is expected to carry a price-tag of around Rs 7 lakh (ex-showroom).
