The Monte Carlo edition of the Skoda Rapid will come with subtle aesthetic upgrades and some additional equipment over the standard car.
Skoda India has launched a new variant of the Rapid saloon – dubbed Monte Carlo. Through this new edition, Skoda wants to add a sporty vibe to the Rapid, which has been facing stiff competition of late.
On the outside, the Rapid Monte Carlo features a heavy dose of blackened out elements, which include – black front grille, 16-inch dual tone black alloy wheels, black roof, black tailgate spoiler and black grained diffuser. To make all the black treatment prominent, the Monte Carlo will be offered in two contrasting paint schemes – Flash Red and Candy White.
The sporty theme is carried forward on the inside as well. A jet black dashboard with a flat bottom steering wheel dominate the Rapid Monte Carlo’s cockpit. Furthermore, red and black leatherette seats, red contrast stitching, and ribbed steel foot pedals also come standard.
Skoda has introduced a new infotainment system in the Rapid Monte Carlo – called Drive. It features a 6.5-inch colour touchscreen with SmartLink and MirrorLink technologies, and Apple CarPlay & Android Auto as well.
Mechanically, the Monte Carlo remains identical to the standard Rapid, which means that it will be offered with a choice of two engines. First up, a 1.6-litre petrol with 103bhp and 153Nm, and also a 1.5-litre turbo-diesel with 108bhp and 250Nm. Both engines get the option of an automatic transmission, however – the diesel comes mated to a more advanced dual clutch transmission as opposed to the petrol’s torque converter unit.
The Skoda Rapid Monte Carlo is introduced to keep the car competitive against other mid-sized saloons like Honda City, Maruti Suzuki Ciaz, Volkswagen Vento, and the all-new Hyundai Verna.
