People of a certain age will doubtlessly remember the phenomenon that was the boy-band craze. During the 90s, the likes of Boyzone, N'Sync, Westlife, Take That and co. reigned supreme atop the hierarchy of western music. But the flagbearers of the revolution were always the Backstreet Boys.
AJ, Howie, Nick, Kevin and Brian were the epitome of cool — they were sex symbols; their tunes were instantly recognizable, and they remained successful for at least three straight albums.
Still, it's been a while and music has moved on. We've seen the mainstream arrival of rap and hip-hop; solo performers like Rihanna, Justin Bieber, Lady Gaga and others, and even the age of 'Bad Blood', concerning Taylor Swift and Katy Perry (before the former's annihilation at the hands of Kim Kardashian). Finally, with the rise and quick separation of One Direction, the industry came full circle.
Yes, a lot has gone on in music since the Larger than Life days of the Backstreet Boys, and yet, in line with their famous words: "As long as there'll be music, we'll be coming back again", the iconic five are poised to make a return.
The Backstreet Boys will be appearing on a concert show called CMT Crossroads, which pairs different music artists and gets them to sing each others' songs. Over 15 years of the show's existence, over a 110 performers and bands have come together, including the likes of Kid Rock, Elton John, Sheryl Crow, Dolly Parton, Keith Urban, Bon Jovi, Lionel Richie, Bryan Adams, Kelly Clarkson... and the list goes on and on, arguably reaching a crescendo with Taylor Swift and Def Leppard coming together to perform the latter's songs.
And now, we've got the first look at the Backstreet Boys and Florida Line Keys performing Everybody:
The other songs that will be played have not yet been revealed, though excitement is sure to be high now that we've had a taste of what's to come. The episode airs on August 31 IST.
